Assessment of Chiropteran diversity and conservation status across diverse Bio regions in India
Bats are one of the vital components of India’s biodiversity and does play a key ecosystem role as seed dispersers, pollinators and pest control agents. The study of distribution and conservation status of the most bat species of South Asia is scarce. There is an obvious dearth of information on bats living in the wild as well as in the human dominated landscapes. With no recent information on their distribution especially in the wild, international experts have recommended basic ecological surveys as the primary need all bat species in India.
IBCRU aims to document and publicize the rich diversity in India bat, along with the ecological role they play and economical benefits bats provide. IBCRU will act as a resource center focusing on conservation, research, training and outreach across Indian subcontinent in the coming decades.
Assessment of Chiropteran diversity and conservation status across diverse Bio regions in India
To establish Regional resource centers for the study of bat ecology , conservation, training and outreach by scientific collaborations with local institutions and organizations
To implement a bat education-awareness programme for multiple stakeholders to strengthen the conservation action plan and management
To work in collaboration with forest department and educational institutions in the region to establish an active network of young enthusiasts to ensure conservation research in future
