Official Website – www.mhadeiresearchcenter.org

The Mhadei Research Center has been established to provide a platform for wildlife researchers to document and study the biodiversity of the Mhadei Bio region that encompasses the states of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The first of its kind in this region, the Mhadei Research Center aims to fill the lacuna of wildlife research on lesser-known species of this region including lesser known mammals, reptiles and amphibians and medicinal plant species amongst others.

While wildlife research is an important objective of the Center, another important objective is community training and awareness generation. It seeks to collaborate with NGO’s, Research Institutions and interns as well as individuals who are interested in learning about wildlife documentation in general and research in the Western Ghats in particular. It also aims to facilitate ecology studies and training for students of wildlife sciences on a long-term basis in co ordination with official agencies including the Forest Departments of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra, the Zoological Survey of India, the Botanical Survey of India and the Indian Herpetological Society amongst others. The Mhadei Research Center is also part of the Indian Rainforest Research Station network and is in the forefront of herpetofauna research in the region.
